Leukemia in dog and cat: correct diagnosis for correct managing of the patient
Leukemia in dog and cat: correct diagnosis for correct managing of the patient
Contenidos
Leukemia is a heterogeneous group of lymphohematopoietic neoplastic diseases affecting cats and dogs with a relatively high frequency and generally showing non-specific clinical signs. A correct diagnosis of the different types of leukemia (Acute Lymphoid Leukemia, Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) and the identification of putative prognostic factors are based on the use of different laboratory tests including hematology, cytology, bone marrow biopsy, flow cytometry/immunohistochemistry. A comprehensive interpretation of the laboratory results is mandatory to differentiate leukemia from leukemic lymphoma and other similar hematological diseases, accurately identify the type of leukemia, and adequately predict prognosis and tailor therapy.

Objetivos
The webinar is aimed to provide information about how correctly diagnosing canine and feline leukemia to set up therapy and prognosis correctly.
Leukemia is a heterogeneous group of neoplastic diseases affecting dogs and cats with a moderate frequency. A correct diagnostic pathway including different laboratory tests is necessary not only to identify different types of leukemia (lymphoid, myeloid, acute, chronic) and to differentiate leukemia from other neoplastic lymphohematopoietic diseases (lymphoma, multiple myeloma) but also to tailor therapy and predict prognosis adequately.
The webinar will focus on the laboratory approach to canine and feline leukemias to provide the correct diagnostic pathway to differentiate different diseases and identify prognostic factors useful to correctly managing patients.
The webinar will provide useful information to vets directly involved in laboratory diagnosis and clinical-pathologists. still, it is also focused on providing information to non-specialists in laboratory medicine about the correct use of ancillary tests and their interpretation in the diagnostic pathway of canine and feline leukemia.
The webinar will use a case-based approach, also using many hematologic pictures to provide a comprehensive overview of leukemia in pet animals.
